  • New Border Force Asbestos Regulations

    22/12/2016

Australian Customs decision to focus on Imports of Asbestos and ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) continues to hamper importers across the country.

The rulings and new guidelines relate to Regulation 4C of the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956.

Forwarders including Asean Cargo Pty Limited are being asked to lodge Asbestos supporting documentation or process individual shipments and provide declarations that their goods are Asbestos Free.

Issues arise when countries such as China have an allowance for goods to contain up to 5% Asbestos to be able to claim the goods to be Asbestos Free, Australia have a 0% Tolerance level in order to claim Asbestos Free.

Asean urges all Importers to investigate with your supply chain and Manufacturing elements and advise whether any of your parts or components contain Asbestos (of any level). If all the goods are asbestos free, we will endeavour to ensure there are minimal issues moving forward.

If you have had issues recently with the new regulations, please do not hesitate to contact your local office and speak with one of our experienced licensed brokers for more assistance.
